I’ve always loved going to the Cellars-Hohenort in Constantia.  The setting is stunning, gardens beautiful and hotel impressive.

We stopped by for coffee and a light lunch.

Order:

2 x Cappuccino – R24 each
1 x Club Sandwich (Toasted) (Roast chicken mayonnaise, bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese)  – R80

Cappuccinos came first.  They are served in a small cup and are accompanied by a lovely biscuit. They were quite strong, but we really enjoyed them.

We waited quite a long time for the sandwich, which I didn’t mind as we were enjoying the atmosphere.  The only thing I didn’t enjoy is that it was a really hot day – we sat inside but it was still uncomfortably hot. We asked if they had an area with an aircon and were told they didn’t.  Real pity as I would have enjoyed my time a lot more if I could have felt cool.

We had requested to share the sandwich, which they kindly served on two plates for us.  The portion is large, so it’s perfect to share.

The sandwich is nicely presented and comes with some salad leaves and a few crisps.  Ordering a toasted sandwich, you kind of expect it to be hot but this was not the case.  Ordinary white bread is used and the mayo seemed to make the bread a little soggy.  I must admit I was slightly disappointed with the sandwich.  Didn’t feel it was anything more special than I could have had at any restaurant. It lacked the 5 Star charm this hotel is known for.

Service was good.  Everyone is really pleasant and they make you feel at home.

Besides that little bit of disappointment, we will return.  Just have to wait until a cooler day.
